Sedang mencari bahan untuk sebuah projek penulisan panduan pengkajian Sejarah, saya bertemu dengan buku ini. Lalu saya terfikir, begitu mendalam aspek pelajaran Sejarah yang disemai dalam kurikulum matapelajaran Sejarah di Australia sehingga mengajar akan konsep pengkajian Sejarah dan Historian Toolkits.
Saya, mahu tidak mahu membayangkan perbezaan yang begitu besar antara pedagogi pengajaran matapelajaran Sejarah di Malaysia dengan Australia.
Bayangkan, pelajar di Grade 9 (berusia 14-15 tahun) sudah pun didedahkan dengan konsep pengkajian Sejarah dan Historian Toolkits yang saintifik dan sistematik.
Cuba mengingat kembali semasa di Tingkatan 3 apa yang kita pelajari.
Pendudukan Jepun dan usaha menggapai kemerdekaan dari versi satu pihak.
Harap jika pun silibus diubah nanti, bukan Sejarah dari versi yang berbeza sahaja kita kita mahukan, tetapi penerapan ilmu alat dan ilmu pengkajian yang mampu memandaikan pelajar supaya mampu berfikir secara rasional, bersistem dan saintifik.
Moga dengan usaha ini ketaksuban melampau, penerimaan total dan mutlak tanpa usul selidik, rasa sentrisiti dan romantisme berlebihan ke atas sejarah dapat dibendung dari awal.
Moga kita lebih rasional dan professional.
